Ponds, Fountains, and Water Features

Pond 2Water adds several unique dimensions to outdoor living spaces and corporate offices, with the eye-catching movement of water and the soothing sounds of a waterfall or fountain. Water features can turn a landscape into a quiet retreat from a busy day, or a relaxing paradise right outside your home. And water features can add even more to a landscape; light reflecting off of a pond, fish or floating flowers can live in a pond, or your guests can throw coins in a fountain as they wish for their own water feature.

Suburban Landscaping has been making unique, custom ponds and water features for residential and commercial clients since 1984. Custom creating these focal points, our experienced crews can build any size pond or fountain your project  requires. A Suburban Landscaping water feature will become the focal point and crowning touch on your courtyard, backyard, or corporate entrance.

Below are a few basic ideas the Suburban Landscaping can design and build for you.

  • Scenic Ponds
  • Waterfalls
  • Pond-less Waterfalls
  • Fountains
  • Streams
  • Koi Ponds

Benefits of a water feature you may not be aware of:

  • Reduce Stress
  • Add Property Value
  • Lower Summer Temperatures (in small areas)
  • If Desired, Attract Birds & Butterflies

Eyecatching Seasonal Color In Every Season

seasonal colorIf you're looking for a way to add color to your landscape in any season, our designers have your solution. Few elements in the landscape effect the appearance of a property the way annual flowers can. In the Chicagoland area most plants only bloom for a limited time, relying on foliage color for the remainder of their season. However, we can offer a combination of planting ideas that will give your eye catching curb-appeal in all four seasons.

Our designers can offer a rotating planting schedule to match the seasons of the calendar so your home, office, or grounds look their colorful best at any time of year. No longer do you need to look at faded floral plantings after their peak seasons.

The crews at Suburban Landscaping are expert at soil cultivation and bed preparation that can produce the best results from your seasonal plantings. Our crews can add nutrient rich soil additives, fertilizers, watering agents, and organic composts to revitalize your soil for maximum blooms and a longer blooming season.

Our Seasonal Color program consists of a planting schedule that changes four times per year. The winter season can be optional if desired.

What Does Seasonal Color Cost?Spring Bulbs 2

The cost of seasonal color can vary greatly depending upon a few different factors, such as the size of the planting beds or number of vases and pots, as well as the number of annuals selected. Generally starting above the $200 per planting rotation, a large bed can run as much a $500-$700 per planting rotation. The best way to know the exact cost of your seasonal color plan is to request a landscape quote from one of our designers.

Here are some creative ideas for your landscape lighting projects to create the exact ambiance and feel you desire:

Walkway Lighting: Adding walkway lighting increases visibility for your family and guests as the approach and exit your home, ensuring a safe walking experience. By drawing attention to your pathways and sidewalks, your lighting can direct your guests to the entrance door of your choice.

Outdoor Cooking: Whether you have an outdoor grill or a full outdoor kitchen, landscape lighting near your cooking area can add both to the ambiance and usefulness of the cooking area.

Security Lighting: Safety is a top priority in any home, and by adding landscape lighting near sidewalks and exterior doors is a great way to feel more secure in your home. Seeing the people approaching the entrances to you home before they arrive on your porch is a valuable feature for your home.

Step Lighting: Creative landscapes often have a change in elevation, including steps to traverse those changes. Using landscape lighting near or adjacent to steps and stair that would otherwise be dark, not only adds beauty but functionality to your landscape.

Focal Point Lighting: Using a variety of techniques, we can highlight the architectural beauty of your home including design angles, special features, roof lines, peaks, and gables. We can also highlight special features in your landscape, such as water features, an outdoor fireplace, or specimen trees.

Mood Lighting: Our creative designers can softly illuminate certain areas of your property to create desired effects, such as low, romantic lighting around outdoor spas, pools, and seating areas. More mood lighting can be used for areas of your deckoutdoor dining area, or gazebo.

Initial Consultation

During our initial consultation, our landscape designer will meet with you at you home for an hour or two, to discuss you plans and vision for the space we are to design. We will ask many questions during the initial consultation, but our primary intention is to listen. Our goal is to fully understand what you are looking for and how the space will be used.  We also will discuss the functionality of the plan, the budget for the project, and any future uses of the space you may need.

Site Analysis & Concept Design

After the initial consultation, our designers will do a complete site analysis and take measurements, enabling us to create a scaled drawing of the project. The analysis will include the location of existing plants and features that are to remain in the design, along with other factors such as drainage, lighting, pedestrian traffic flow, ingress/egress, and elevation changes.

Design & Master Plancommercial design 1

Once we have assembled all of the measurements, inventory of existing elements, and all of your needs and desires, we ill start the design process. After we asses all of the information, our designers will strive to create a design with your vision, style, and preferences in mind. Using traditional design theories such as balance, contrast, symmetry, and more, we will aim to blend the natural character of the space with the existing architecture of your home.

Presentation & Acceptance

Once the design process is finished for your project, we will call and schedule a second meeting at your home or the property location. At the second meeting, we will provide you with the following

  • A finished landscape plan
  • A comprehensive proposal for the installation
  • A copy of the guarantee on our work
  • A certificate of insurance

Budget For Your Landscape Project

Block Column_2

Most clients do not know what the costs will be to turn their vision into reality, but they usually know the "ballpark" of what they have budgeted to spend on the project. Remember, if your budget does not cover all of your ideas for the space you would like to landscape, we can design a landscape master plan to be installed in "phases" which can be spread over time.

The advantage of having a budget, is that we can design a landscape for you that meets your budget and fulfills your vision of your landscape. With a budget in hand, our designers know the limits of their materials, but without limiting their creativity. For example, to meet a set budget, plants can be enlarged or scaled back in size, the brand or type of patio or firepit can change without changing the size,  or the size of a pond or water feature can be scaled to meet the budget.

Landscape Design Tips

Landscape Design

Here are some things that our clients can do prior to the initial consultation that will assist our designers in delivering a landscape design that meets all of your goals and dreams.

  • Look at the landscaping of other homes in your neighborhood. What do you like and not like about their landscape?
  • Think of plants you have seen that you like.
  • Consider how much maintenance you are willing to do, in terms of plant care and landscape care.
  • What view to the house or building is the most important?
  • What views from inside your home would you like to enhance?
  • Are there any views to hide or downplay?
  • Which existing plants do you want to keep?
  • Is landscape lighting important to you?
  • Will you use the space to entertain? If so, how many people should we plan for?
  • Will you want an outdoor kitchen or entertainment/eating area?
  • Having your plat of survey will help our designers.
